Animaniacs Christmas Movie

Back in the late 90's, we developed a bunch of different movie concepts for Yakko, Wakko and Dot.  Bob Doucette drew up preliminary posters for some of these development ideas.  Here's one that featured the Warners working at the North Pole -- and driving Santa's elves crazy.

  1. I love it! I'm guessing it would have been a musical with fun Christmas songs, and Warner wackyness (tm). Is this related somewhat to Animaniacs No L, No Well, No Whale, Noel, Oh Well?

  2. I really do wish they would bring this show back. Or at least give the distribution rights back to you guys so you could distribute online. WB is run by a real spazz to not see their worth.

  3. might have been too similar to P&B's special due to locale though... but still wish I could have seen it. I loved Hurray for North Hollywood!

I remember one day in Driver's Ed the teacher didn't watch the live action "Dennis the Mennis" & it was due at the video store so instead of teaching us the rules of the road we watched the movie (*sigh* money well spent) but that VHS did have an ad for "Wakko's Wacko Wish". Only to find out later that it's now called "Wakko's Wish" why did the name change?

  4. Dear Mr. Squirrelywrath,
Any relation to Slappy? She has that squirrely "wrath" thing going for her.
I agree with you. WB is squandering its assets. They should get off their assets and distribute the show!

  5. Dear SimingPup,
Wakko's Wish was originally called "It's A Wakko Wakko Wakko Wakko Wish." The title was an homage to "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World," which was an all-star race-to-the-treasure road picture, which "Wakko's Wish" attempted to emulate. I met with the Warner Bros. Home Video marketing people, and they lobbied strenuously to have the title shortened. They had some rule about title lengths. I reluctantly gave in, and it was renamed "Wakko's Wacko Wish." By the time we tested it in theaters, the theatrical division had gotten involved and had shortened the title further to "Wakko Wish."

  6. Hiya! Tom, long time no see!, as for what Squirrelywrath said, this show deserves to return!, I know you don't work for WB anymore, but ¿who gave us the most happy moments in the saddest times? ¿who made us laugh when we were sad? ¿who gave us light when we were covered with dark?, nothing more than animaniacs, however facts are facts, but if something unexpected happens, I'm sure everybody including you could be happy. Extra: Life is ironic, the Simpsons have been on air more than 20 years and Spongebob squarepants more than 10 years!

  7. I'm with you, JC. Nothing would please me more than bringing back "Animaniacs."

  8. I love It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

How did Wakko's Wish do in home markets?

  9. Warner Bros released it to home video on Dec. 31st! No kidding. You couldn't buy it for Christmas. Only a couple of weeks after Christmas.

I don't know the sales figures. I suspect it didn't do too well. It received practically zero promotion.

    1. Don't worry Tom; people still remember it. The whole movie is on Youtube, and the scene with Yakko telling Dot the story is a favourite of the Animaniacs fans. And I have to agree; it's heartfelt and genuine without being mushy. Good on you!
