Initially, a younger version of Foghorn Leghorn was going to play a role on Tiny Toons...
...but no one could muster much enthusiasm for the character. Ultimately, we came up with the foul-mouthed character named Fowlmouth, who seemed to carry on a bit of the blustery spirit of Foghorn, if not the design. Fowlmouth, voiced by Rob Paulsen, made his biggest impression as the loud-mouthed movie patron in "Tiny Toons' How I Spent My (Summer) Vacation."
This is really cool, Tom! Were there any other Tiny Toons characters that didn't make the cut?
ReplyDeleteCute.
ReplyDeleteJS: there were more a bunch of others...and I will break out additional artwork as time permits.
ReplyDeleteSounds great. Thanks for sharing these again.
ReplyDeleteSeeing this character design, it makes me wonder why it wasn't used when "Baby Looney Tunes" was first thought of - would have made, IMO, an obvious moral ep of letting others have their say, not to interrupt, speak when spoken to, etcetera...
ReplyDeleteStill, in terms of other rejected characters, all I know of is Lightning Rodriguez, Speedy Gonzales' "student". So it would be cool to see who else didn't make the cut in future posts :)
Chris:
ReplyDeleteNot sure Warner Bros. has copies of old model sheets and other stuff. They tend to toss out much of their material, or ship it off to storage in a salt mine in Kansas, where it's often lost. At least, that's what I hear.
Be forewarned: I'm rolling this stuff out at a pretty slow pace...since I have work to do.
I really liked Fowlmouth and I don't think it dawned on me back then that he was supposed to be "swearing". Cute voice too. I made a comment to an illegally uploaded Tiny Toons clip that he was left out of the rap song in the clip-- and Rich Arons sent me a PM saying "Thanks for remembering Fowlmouth, I directed his first cartoon". And that is the story of how I met Rich Arons. lol
ReplyDeleteDid Dan Hasket draw these?
ReplyDeleteThere's also the model sheet of Lightning Rodriguez who would have been the obvious Speedy Gonzalez clone.
ReplyDeleteWho did the character designs for the Animaniacs and Tiny Toons?

ReplyDeleteMany artists were involved.
Maybe you guys can help me. I am trying to figure out the name of the old, not-very-bright turkey that I saw in a cartoon as a child back in the late 60s, early 70s. I cannot remember what cartoon he was on, but I do remember he had a somewhat droopy look about him and looked and spoke like an old man. Do any of you know who this is?
ReplyDeleteIt might be Thomas Turkey, or Tom Turkey, from the Daffy Duck cartoon "Holiday for Drumsticks."
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tom. I just figured it out. So much for my memory. It was not a turkey, it was a buzzard - Beaky Buzzard from Bugs Bunny. :/ Thank you very much for your help though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, Mr. Ruegger. The top left pic of the younger version of Foghorn is used on that machine in the episode ''You Asked for It'', but his head is white like his body and not brown. Now with the head brown it clearly looks like a young Foghorn and not an early version of Fowlmouth. Glad you went with Fowlmouth - great character, great design.
ReplyDeleteLightning Rodriquez is also shown on the screen in ''You Asked for It.''
thanks for the details, Brandon.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the story behind the human version of "Egghead Jr" in "Plucky's Dastardly Deed"? Was this an error by the animation studio?
