  1. Hi Tom,

found your blog through the Mental Floss site. So cool to hear how "Animaniacs" began. This is one of my favorite shows of all time. Thanks for posting so much excellent information on your blog also!

  2. Interesting reading, once again. Thanks for your support and for pointing us to the article!

While we are at Animaniacs... any news about a possible Volume 4 release?
Or won't they say anything about it :(

    1. That's a good question. If we're 3/4 done, why not release the rest of the show on DVD? Do you have any say in this or is it all WB's doing?

To stay on topic here, this was a fantastic, brilliantly written article.

    2. FYI, I haven't worked at Warner Bros. for over a decade. They do not consult me on their dvd release schedule, or on any other matters.

  3. This is an interesting article and a great summery of the series.
There is some things that I did not know.
It would be a great idea to make a book about the Warner Bros. Animation in the 90'. Perhaps Jerry Berck is interested ?

  4. I remember watching this show when my son was growing up. It is always fun to go back and remember all the funny characters.

  5. Just when I think that I know everything there is to know about Animaniacs... There are always new nuggets of goodness to discover, aren't there? Just so you know, a WWII themed Animaniacs movie is a fan-frickin-tastic idea. Swing era bond-selling Nazi-smashing Warners would be fun for the whole family!

  6. Someday I hope to see a sketch of Bossy Beaver and Doyle on this blog. Or were they developed that far?

Also, were both Nipsy and Russell going to be voiced by Nipsy Russell?

  7. I agree, Joanna. A Warners feature film WWII period piece would be great.

Peter, my version of Bossy Beaver AKA Bizzy Beaver, with his sidekick Slacker, can be seen in a post that appeared during the first week of the Cartoonatics blog: http://cartoonatics.blogspot.com/2010/07/dam-it_13.html

Nipsy and Russell never got past the drawing stage.

  8. I would like to see a late 80's themed episode taking place in Britain called "24 Hour Warner People" as a parody of the movie "24 Hour Party People". When American music (House/Techno) was mixed in Britain and transformed it's society, you know. Can be a fun episode full of club music and wacky slapstick together. What do you think?

  9. Finding your blog has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me. The cartoon shows you worked on were a big part of my childhood. They fuelled my love for animation and eccentric, wittily-wonderful humour - some of which I hope I have carried into my own projects. All this has made me feel joyful, excited, and a touch wistfully nostalgic.

It is always enjoyable to read about what happens behind the scenes, and general creative observations, but at the same time it's saddening to hear of the disappointments in great ideas now archived. Thank you for sharing it all with us!
