Animaniacs Movie Poster #3: "Wandering Warners We"

Another preliminary movie poster designed by Bob Doucette for a series of  "Animaniacs" movie concepts that were developed in the late 90's.  Paul Rugg had his hand in the development of this scenario, and the treatment is hilarious.  Yakko, Wakko and Dot play troubadours sent on a mission by the King to track down his heir, the princess, in order to save the kingdom.  In "Wandering Warners We," the fourth Warner sibling is introduced:  the profoundly untalented "Lakko."  (Before the midpoint of the movie, Lakko is unceremoniously fired from the production by his brothers and sister due to an abject lack of timing and charisma.)

  1. Tom and all the people writing on this forum, hang on because I will say something "touching" about animaniacs, and something I forgot to say in my last post:

!!sometimes I wish this show had never ever ever ended at all!!

And now I will finish my today's post with this: we don't know if animaniacs will return or not, maybe yes or maybe not, but we can wish a show similar to it to be born ¿which studio? ¿when? ¿who would be involved? nobody knows, but as the movie wakko's wish says: !!just cheer up and never ever give up hope!! (touching isn't it?) Ok !Goodnight everybody!

  3. Hey Tom,if I'm not mistaken, according to the comics, there was a fourth Warner called Sakko:

So if you guys did that for the movie,Lakko would have to have been the fifth Warner. Right?

  4. The people who created the show weren't involved in the comics. The comics are not officially canon in my opinion.

  5. Who's Lakko and what did he look like, Tom?

  6. The treatment for the story was written but we did not get around to designing Lakko.

  7. Of all the concepts revealed so far, I think this one fits the Animaniacs universe best. It would have been easier IMO to work the side characters into the storyline than it was in Wakko's Wish -- as the Warners travel they could meet the Goodfeathers in some kind of alternate role, and then meet Slappy in another alternate role, etc. Better than juggling 7 different perspectives. Plus, the Warners could really cut loose with this premise and do some really funny stuff. The plot of Wakko's Wish didn't feel that...zany. Dot on the verge of death? Yikes.

  8. Peter,

"Wandering Warners We" is a very different story than "Wakko's Wish," and it's a very funny one. It would definitely work as a feature film with the Warners at the center of the action.

As for "Wakko's Wish," having concocted the story myself and having co-scripted and co-directed the piece, I'm probably not the one you should complain to about it. I like it a lot!

And, as for Dot being on the verge of death?

    Well, not really.

    She fooled ya!

  9. I sure enjoyed Wakko's wish. I would have enjoyed this movie very much too. As for Lacko, perhaps I'll take a stab at drawing the Warner that might have been.

I think this shows that there are still many concepts for the Warners to use.

You ever consider trying to get permission to create little comic strips for the Warners? Maybe not even for proffit, but just for fun.

Oh, and by the way, if you ever did want a place for people to share artwork, critque, and disscuss the works, among other things. You could always try creating a free message board.

    Just a thought.

Is Yakko playing a lute, a mandolin, or other?

  10. "Lady, Play Your Mandolin! was the first Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon. Released in 1931, it starred Foxy and was directed by Rudolf Ising of Harman and Ising.

    Yakko is playing a mandolin.

  11. Did any of the other conceived movies make it to treatment form?

  12. I have outlines of varying length for all of them

  13. Be cool if you posted at least some of those outlines. I'd love to read them.

  14. Will try to post a few of them for Christmas.

  15. Tom, here is my picture of what I think that Lakko looks like with Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. It's a picture of your characters on all fours.

Four Legged Yakko, Wakko, Lakko, and Dot: http://sheezyart.com/art/view/2367868/

I think of Lakko as a grey-furred Warner who wears a yellow-orange T-shirt in the normal, two legged form but wears a yellow-orange collar with a gold-colored bell on it in four legged form.

  16. Is Lakko Dot's twin brother or not?

  17. That actually brings up a question about that image of the prototypes Yakky, Smakky, Wakky and Dot (or was she yet called Dot at that point?). Wakky and Dot are the same size, potentially the same age. Was the thought at the time still that Dot was their sister, or was she a cousin or ... was there no thought about it yet?

  18. All siblings. The name Dot came last.

  19. Where can I find the outlines for the conceived movies?

  20. On my computer and in the filing cabinet in my office

  21. Well, here's just a random thought: What if WB made a show with all the cartoon characters they have made in the past (including Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, etc) like Disney did for House of Mouse?

  22. Tom, if you're reading this, what was Lakko like? Like, could you give us a scenario with him and his siblings or smthn?

  23. He was sort of a wide eyed disconnected guy -- not a live wire. He lacked personality. Thus, Lakko.
